28 January, 2010 » Cordelia News

Good news for all you Shakespeare fans. A King Lear adaptation centering on the character of Cordelia is headed to the big screen and will start filming this summer. Cordelia will be played by the lovely Imogen Poots. Thank you to Imogen Poots Fan for the news. I remember Cordelia having a very small (but important) role in the play, so I am interested to see this new version.

Hoffman [the director of "Cordelia"] will be heading to England and France this summer to direct “Cordelia,” which stars actress Imogen Poots (“28 Weeks Later”). He describes it as “an original love story set in castles in the 1400s, inspired by ‘King Lear.’

28 January, 2010 » Sam Worthington to Play Dracula

Thank you to ComingSoon.net via the lovely Fiction to Film for the news! According to recent news, Sam Worthington, the star of Avatar, is in talks to play Dracula. Mr. Worthington is doing well for himself, don’t you think? He is starring in one of the biggest films of all time and in the upcoming and highly anticipated Clash of the Titans. Now he will take part in this age’s vampire craze. The new film is relevant to the site because it is apparently an origin film.

Latino Review is reporting that Avatar and upcoming Clash of the Titans star Sam Worthington is a frontrunner to star in Universal’s Dracula Year Zero, to be directed by Alex Proyas (Knowing, I, Robot).

The film is an origin tale of Vlad the Impaler, the Romanian royal who inspired Bram Stoker’s vampire tale. It centers on how Vlad became the creature; the choices that he made to make him into the tragic character.

28 January, 2010 » Black Death Review

A review for the movie Black Death has been released. It looks interesting if not very similar to Season of the Witch.

We’ve all watched Christopher Smith grow at FrightFest thanks to world premiering each of his movies since he started out on his directing career. Now he delivers spectacularly on the promise shown incrementally from CREEP to SEVERANCE to TRIANGLE.

20 January, 2010 » New Eagle of the Ninth Photos

New photos from the upcoming Rome epic movie, Eagle of the Ninth, have been released at this site.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen or heard anything from the upcoming epic film, The Eagle of the Ninth. Perhaps it has something to do with Channing Tatum starring as the lead, but we can’t know for sure. The film also features a mature Jamie Bell and acting vet Donald Sutherland in a supporting role. Over at Yahoo, they’ve release six new photos from the film so lets take a look…

The Eagle of the Ninth is set in the dangerous world of second-century Britain. In 140 AD, twenty years after the unexplained disappearance of the entire Ninth Legion in the mountains of Scotland, young centurion Marcus Aquila (Tatum) arrives from Rome to solve the mystery and restore the reputation of his father, the commander of the Ninth. Amongst all the drama, he meets and is accompanied by a British slave named Esca, who will be played by Bell, while Sutherland will come into the picture as Marcus’ uncle Aquila, who has retired in Britain.

13 January, 2010 » Michael Hirst to Write The Borgias

I had to post this right away (even though the news is a few days old) because I’m extremely excited! After years of hearing about projects, both for film and television, about the Borgia family of Renaissance Italy, it appears a series has been greenlit by Showtime, the network behind The Tudors. Michael Hirst, the writer for The Tudors (as well as Elizabeth), is to write episodes for The Borgias and Jeremy Irons is to play Rodrigo Borgia. More cast members have yet to be announced (or cast), but we will know by this summer as filming is to begin then. The series is scheduled to premiere in 2011. You can read an article right here.

I welcome your thoughts about the series. I remember waiting anxiously for The Tudors and wondering who would get to play what character. Is there any actor or actress in particular you would like to see in this? Who could play Lucrezia or Cesare Borgia (and others)?
