The trailer for the upcoming television series, Spartacus: Blood and Sand, is now online. The series is scheduled to air January 2010 and is created by Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi, who are also behind Xena: Warrior Princess and Legend of the Seeker. The show is based on the life of Roman slave and gladiator, Spartacus, who led a revolt against the Roman Republic. From what I can see of the trailer, it looks an awful lot like 300. Everything from the graphic style, slow motion fighting, and music. Hopefully it will be more original than that! There is a website set up for it at Starz right here.
Carey Mulligan stars in An Education, a film taking place in early 1960s England. Dominic Cooper, Rosamund Pike, and Emma Thompson also star. You can learn more it at IMDb and view the trailer right here. Judging from the trailer, it looks like we will be seeing some excellent performances by newcomers and film veterans alike.
Jenny (Carey Mulligan) is a bright young girl on the cusp of her 17th birthday who finds herself in a whirlwind romance with a much older David (Peter Sarsgaard). Prior to meeting David, Jenny was trying to excel in her life by going to a prep school to get into Oxford. Once she sees the lifestyle David can provide, one she never imagined might so easily be hers, she is hooked and thoughts of Oxford go out the window. Then, when things are looking pretty good for Jenny with the dashing (yet a little too smooth) David, the truth hits her like a ton of bricks. Jenny goes from being a bright eyed school girl to a sophisticated young lady and then all the way back to questioning if she really knows who she is at all.
A very beautiful new trailer for Bright Star, directed by Jane Campion, has been released. You can watch it at Youtube. Not only does it look like an excellent film about a very talented poet, John Keats, but everything about its direction and cinematography and writing looks very poetic as well! It will be released later this year and stars Ben Wishaw (Perfume: Story of a Murderer) and Abbie Cornish (Elizabeth: The Golden Age).
The director of the upcoming 1600s adventure film, Solomon Kane, recently posted a new poster and production still from the movie. You can view the entry at his blog. The movie was recently screened at the Comic-Con in San Diego. Michael J. Bassett also commented on the audience’s reaction to it, which consisted mostly of surprise and excitement. The story is based on the Ron Howard comics and stars James Purefoy as the title character. From what I can tell, the film looks very gritty and interesting. Not too many people have heard of it yet, however. Hopefully that will change very soon!
Gemma Arterton Online has new production stills from Prince of Persia, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton. You can view the two stills right here. Gemma Arterton is also featured in a very cool brand new poster. The film looks far from anything historically accurate (which is to be expected as it is based on a video game), but I am excited for it nonetheless. Follow this link for an article and a small picture of Jake as Dastan.
A beefed-up Jake Gyllenhaal sweeps Gemma Arterton off her feet as he drags her out of a pool and on to his horse.
The chivalrous scenes show a glimpse of the eagerly anticipated film Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time, currently in production.
The pictures show the Brokeback Mountain star and Bond Girl Arterton both drenched from head to foot and then escaping on horseback still soaking wet.
A new movie, entitled Barbaresque, about Piri Reis, an Ottoman admiral and cartographer, is in the works. Eric Bana is rumored to have agreed to star in it. Filming locations include Spain and Malta. You can read the full article here.
The life of 16th century Ottoman admiral and cartographer Piri Reis is set for the big screen, and the epic, currently in the early stages of development, has already received support from Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, according to its producer.
The movie’s producer, Cumali Varer, who originally runs a tourism company in France, has rolled up his sleeves for the epic, expected for theatrical release in 2011, according to a report posted on the Turkish movie Web site sinematurk.com. “I met the prime minister while in İstanbul, and he agreed to support [my movie]. Everyone will be talking about this film in 2011,” Varer was quoted as saying in the report, which originally appeared in the Akşam daily.
The trailer for Dorian Gray, starring Ben Barnes and Colin Firth has finally been released! You can view the first trailer at this website. The movie looks amazing and I am excited to see it! Hopefully is gets a North American release. It is out in the UK September 9 this year.
22 July, 2009 » Joely Richardson is Katherine Parr
Exciting news for the fourth season of The Tudors: Nip/Tuck actress Joely Richardson is playing Henry VIII’s sixth and final wife, Katherine Parr. Apparently Gillian Anderson was also up for the role!
I’m hearing Nip/Tuck’s Joely Richardson has scored one of the hottest TV roles out there right now: Katherine Parr on Showtime’s The Tudors.
Although unconfirmed by Showtime, a well-placed source tells me that Richardson will play Henry’s (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) last wife during Tudors’ fourth and final season, which is slated to debut in Spring 2010.
Production on Nip/Tuck’s final season wrapped last month, freeing Richardson up to take the gig.
