The warrior princess has been cast as Lucretia in Starz’s drama series, Spartacus: Blood and Sand, set to debut January 2010. John Hannah will play her husband. There is also a new actor for Spartcaus: Andy Whitfield. What happened to Manu Bennet? Thank you to Monsters and Critics and Juicy Flawless.
Actor John Hannah has signed on to play the devious Batiatus, the owner of the gladiator school and husband of Lucretia (Lucy Lawless), his scheming, insatiable wife. The series stars Andy Whitfield in the title role, a Thracian Soldier in the Roman Auxiliary who was taken prisoner and condemned to die in the gladiator arena.
Starz’ anticipated gladiator drama “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” is due on the smallscreen by 2010. Hailed as one of the most realistic depictions of Roman gladiator life, the series has also spawned a Graphic/Comic book series.
24 April, 2009 » Matthew Macfadyen is Sheriff of Nottingham
Pride & Prejudice actor Matthew Macfadyen is the Sheriff of Nottingham in Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood. I think this is an excellent casting choice! Thank you to Lights, Camera… History! for the tip.
It’s being reported that Matthew Macfadyen has been cast in the role of the Sheriff of Nottingham in Ridley Scott’s currently-filming Robin Hood. The announcement was made on his blog after his agent made the confirmation.
Macfadyen hasn’t appeared in much, but you can find him in Pride & Prejudice, Death at a Funeral, as well as Frost/Nixon.
I missed this film as well. Camilla Belle is Mary in Mary Mother of Christ, which will be released a year from now. Jonathan Rhys Meyers will play Gabriel and Lucifer.
Aloe Entertainment has put together its New Testament ensemble for Mary, Mother of Christ, says Variety.
Camilla Belle (Push, 10,000 BC) will star as the titular character and will be joined by Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the dual roles of Gabriel and Lucifer and Peter O’Toole as Symeon.
Al Pacino and Jessica Lange are in talks to play Herod and Anna the Prophetess.
Mary Aloe is producing along with Dune Films (Hidalgo, upcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time).
Argentine helmer Alejandro Agresti (Valentin, The Lake House) is directing the film, which begins filming in Morocco in May.
MGM plans to release the film wide in 2,000-plus theaters April 2, 2010, which coincides with Good Friday.
24 April, 2009 » Clash of the Titans Begins Filming
According to this article, Clash of the Titans will commence filming on April 27. The film will be released March 26, 2010.
Warner Bros Pictures announced they’ll start shooting Clash of the Titans outside of London on April 27. The action-adventure epic will be directed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk) and is based on the 1981 campy classic epic that starred Harry Hamlin as the mortal son of Zeus. I dare you to watch that one now and not laugh out loud at the special effects. This new Clash of the Titans is sure to feature much better visual effects, with Warner Bros bringing on visual effects supervisor Nick Davis (The Dark Knight), prosthetics supervisor Conor O’Sullivan (also from The Dark Knight), and special effects & animatronics supervisor Neil Corbould (Defiance, Blood Diamond) to handle the difficult job of making Clash of the Titans look fabulous.
Warner Brothers has won a bidding war for the rights to make the movie Odysseus. No word about cast or the production start date yet.
Warner Bros. is keeping their Greek roots alive after winning a bidding war for Odysseus written by Ann Peacock, with Jonathan Liebesman attached to direct reports The Hollywood Reporter. Over the past few years Warner has brought us Greek tales such as Troy and 300 and is continuing the trend with the remake of Clash of the Titans, which begins filming soon for a March 26, 2010 release with Louis Leterrier directing a cast made up of such names as Sam Worthington, Gemma Arterton, Mads Mikkelsen, Alexa Davalos, Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes.
Continuing on with Rome screen captures. I added captures from episode 1.8, “Caesarion,” which features Cleopatra, played by Lyndsey Marshal. I found the Egyptian costumes rather bizarre in this episode, but I have no idea how historically accurate they are.
20 April, 2009 » First Look at Russell Crowe as Robin Hood
There is a new production still out already of Russell Crowe as Robin Hood in the Ridley Scott film of the same name. You can view it at ComingSoon.net right here.
USA Today has published the first photo of Russell Crowe in director Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood. Opening in theaters on May 14, 2010, the Universal action-drama co-stars Cate Blanchett, Vanessa Redgrave, Mark Strong, Scott Grimes, Kevin Durand, Alan Doyle, Oscar Isaacs, Lea Seydoux and William Hurt.
Crowe plays Robin of Loxley in an origin story of Robin Hood that hews close to historical facts of the period. Abandoned as a child, he finds community with the common people of Nottingham. Robin’s abandonment and trust issues hamper his ability to fall in love. He meets his match in Marian (Blanchett), a strong, independent woman.
Tonight I added DVD screen captures from Rome season 1, episode 7, “Pharsalus.” I managed to grab a lot of pretty captures from this one. I will be working on capping the rest of Rome very soon! Episode 8 coming tomorrow.
