If this rumor is true, I will be very excited. I am not a huge Russell Crowe fan, but I do think he and Cate would make a good team. A few websites have articles about Cate possibly starring in the film, but they only mention she is being approached.
Cate Blanchett is tipped to replace Sienna Miller as Maid Marian in Ridley Scott’s remake of Robin Hood.
Miller left the production of the film, to be called Nottingham, with various reasons given by the tabloids.
As I reported earlier, some claimed she was fired for being too young and thin next to overweight co-star Russell Crowe, others claimed her love life made her too controversial for a role as a virgin, and yet more reports said Miller walked out after Crowe demanded script rewrites that boosted his screentime and drastically reduced her role.
26 January, 2009 » Tarsem Singh Talks About War of the Gods
It seems Henry Cavill is still attached (and is the only one) to War of the Gods, the next Ancient Greek epic. Empire Movies has a brief article discussing some of its details. Here is what the director Tarsem Singh had to say.
“It’s turning into, basically, Caravaggio meets Fight Club,” he said. “It’s a really hardcore action film done in Renaissance painting style. I want to see how that goes; it’s turned into something really cool. This guy who I really love, who’s the only one person in it right now, is the brother in The Tudors, Henry Cavill. I’m going for a very contemporary look on top of that so I’m kind of going with, you know, Renaissance time with electricity. So it’s a bit like Baz Luhrman doing Romeo + Juliet in Mexico; it’s just talking a particular Greek tale and half contemporising it and telling it.”
Not Kate Winlet, according to this article. the search is still on for Ridley Scott’s Marion in Nottingham. Just my two cents: If Russell Crowe is causing problems because of his age and stature, maybe the director should branch out and find another leading man?
Attracting an actress to play opposite Russell Crowe in ‘Nottingham’ is proving to be a tough sell for director Ridley Scott.
Days after Sienna Miller was booted from the part of Robin Hood’s Maid Marian in oft-delayed film for being too petite to play alongside the much-larger Crowe, FOX News’ Roger Friedman has learned that Kate Winslet — freshly nominated for an Oscar for ‘The Reader’ — has now passed on the role.
A new offer has been extended to Cate Blanchett, but her penchant for tackling more serious work may lead her to pass. If that doesn’t work out, producers will reportedly be giving ‘About a Boy’ actress Rachel Weisz a call.
Visitors to the film’s IMDB page have given their two cents about Maid Marian casting as well, with Keira Knightley and Catherine Zeta-Jones both being floated for the role.
22 January, 2009 » Joss Stone On Playing Anne of Cleves
I found an interesting article about Joss Stone and her upcoming role on The Tudors season 3 playing Henry VIII’s fourth wife, Anne of Cleves.
Singer Joss Stone is about to make her debut as a TV actress with a notable role in Showtime’s The Tudors as Anne of Cleves’, the fourth wife of Henry VIII (played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers). The Tudors is famous for some fairly graphic sex scenes, but when Stone was asked if she was nervous about such scenes at the Television Critics Association press tour last week, she pointed out to the journalists speaking to her that, “There was no consummation. She was a minger, remember?”
I screencapped the last episode of Rome that is on my computer for now: season 1, episode 3. As for general site news, I am slowly transferring content from the old site to the WordPress one and updating all the pages.
PBS is currently airing a two-part adaptation of the novel Wuthering Heights. The first installment aired last night and the second part will air January 25 at 9 pm. You can read an article and view a promotional still from the production here. You can also click on the post title to read the full story.
For those understandably enamored of the 1939 Laurence Olivier-Merle Oberon version, this “Masterpiece Classic” retelling of “Wuthering Heights” does offer a few modern compensations, starting with an intense Tom Hardy as Heathcliff, who, along with Charlotte Riley’s less-impressive Cathy, occupies the center of Emily Bronte’s obsessive love quadrangle. Writer Peter Bowker (“Blackpool”) has widened the lens to include the characters’ heirs, but the last hour of this 2.5-hour production (presented in two unequal parts) lacks quite the wallop that part one delivers once it gets rolling.
A new trailer for Outlander has been released on ComingSoon.net. The movie stars Jim Caviezel and Sophia Myles and will have a limited release in North America on January 23. You can view the trailer, poster, and pictures here.
“Outlander” begins when a space craft crashes into the majestic fjords of ancient Norway and into the time of the Vikings. From the wreckage emerge two bitter enemies: a soldier from another world, Kainan (James Caviezel), and a bloodthirsty creature known as the Moorwen. Man and monster both seeking revenge for violence committed against them. As the Moorwen ravages the Viking world, killing everything in its path, Kainan forms an unlikely alliance with the primitive but fierce warriors. Combining his advanced technology with ancient Iron Age weapons, the hero leads a desperate attempt to kill the monster before it destroys them all.
I made DVD screen captures of one of my favorite episodes of The Tudors: season 1, episode 5. I really liked season 2. In my opinion, it was a a big improvement on the first season. Natalie Dormer (Anne Boleyn) and Jeremy Northam (Thomas More) do an excellent job in this episode.
