19 August, 2010 » The Crimson Petal and the White BBC Drama
Romola Garai, Gillian Anderson, and Richard E. Granthave will star in the upcoming four-part miniseries, The Crimson Petal and the White, which will air early next year on the BBC. The Hollywood Reporter announced the cast a week ago.
Based on the novel from Michel Faber and produced by David Thompson’s Origin Pictures, the 4×60 serial sees Garai playing Sugar, a young prostitute who yearns for a better life away from the supervision of brothel-keeper Mrs. Castaway, played by Anderson.
Grant takes the role of creepy physician Doctor Curlew, whose invasive techniques leave his patients mutilated.
When Sugar becomes the mistress of wealthy businessman William Rackham, whose fragile wife Agnes is attended by Curlew, their lives begin to spiral out of control.
Origin Pictures’ producer Thompson said the drama promises to “shake up the audience’s perceptions of conventional period drama.”
Starz were busy promotingCamelot and their Spartacus: Blood and Sand prequel miniseries at the TCA Press Tour. A teaser trailer of Camelot was shown and the series is said to be “earthy” and very film-like. Check SpoilerTV for amazing shots of extras in costume and the first look at Joseph Fiennes as Merlin.
“Camelot” tells the story of King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table, filmed in Ireland and starring English Joseph Fiennes, Jamie Campbell Bower (“Sweeney Todd”) and Tamsin Egerton. Fiennes, who will play a “Machiavellian” version of the wizard Merlin, called Starz a “hybrid between film and television” that allows for stories with a wider scope without the “interruption” of advertising.
During the “Camelot” panel, showrunner Chris Chibnall confirmed that James Purefoy will also be joining the cast. “Camelot” is scheduled to air in the first half of 2011.
A few set photos from the Irish set of Starz’s Camelot have hit the internet. You can view hi-res candids of the lovely Eva Green as Morgana at EvaGreenWeb.com. There is also a small picture of Jamie Campbell-Bower (Arthur), Joseph Fiennes (Merlin), and Peter Mooney (Kay) at this website. The new series is expected to air in the first half of 2011. The article also lists the new actors involved, including Philip Winchester and James Purefoy.
The cast also includes Philip Winchester (“Crusoe”) as Leontes, Sebastian Koch (The Lives of Others) as King Uther and James Purefoy (“Rome”) as King Lot.

4 June, 2010 » The Borgias Behind-the-Scenes Trailer
For those awaiting The Borgias, Showtime has released a behind-the-scenes trailer. It looks like footage that will be used for the opening credits to me (if they are doing something similar to The Tudors) as I haven’t heard news of any people than four or five people being cast and I don’t think filming has actually begun yet, but I could be wrong. Showtime released a shorter trailer on The Tudors season 3 DVDs. While I am looking forward to it, I hope the show will be different than The Tudors. The Borgias are a different family in a different country (and the events took place before The Tudors), but I hope they stray from the formula a little!
EvaGreenWeb reports that Eva Green (Kingdom of Heaven) has been cast as the sorceress Morgana in the new series, Camelot. Joseph Fiennes (Shakespeare in Love) might also join as Merlin. I highly respect these actors and their involvement makes me believe it will be a quality show. Ireland is also such a beautiful place to film historical shows!
Camelot was never this raunchy! King Arthur’s a swordsman par excellence — with the ladies, that is — in the new ten-part TV series Camelot.
The show, from the makers of The Tudors, starts shooting next month on location in Ireland, with Eva Green as sorceress Morgana la Fay, Jamie Campbell Bower as King Arthur and Tamsin Egerton as Guinevere.
Joseph Fiennes is in the early stages of negotiations to play Merlin.
The producers claim that the drama is based on Thomas Malory’s Le Morte d’Arthur.
28 May, 2010 » Camelot Finds King Arthur and Guinevere
According to ScreenTerrier, Starz’s Camelot series has found its Arthur and Guinevere: Jamie Campbell-Bower and Tamsin Egerton. Filming is due to start next month.
Jamie Campbell-Bower has been cast as King Arthur, with Tamsin Egerton as his queen Guinevere.
21 year old Jamie has recently filmed the role Caius in Twilight:New Moon as well as Ser Waymar Royce in the pilot for the highly-anticipated HBO series Game of Thrones. Also in the latest two Harry Potter instalments, Jamie is reported to be engaged to Harry Potter star Bonnie Wright.
21 year old Tamsin Egerton, a child actress who went on to star in the St Trinians movies, can also be seen in Noel Clarke’s 4.3.2.1 movie which has just premiered in London, and has just wrapped filming on the comedy Chalet Girl.
The trailer for the miniseries, The Pillars of the Earth, has been released by Starz. Fans of the book, what do you think? I haven’t read the book, but something seems off to me about the trailer (maybe the costumes or hairstyles?). However, I am glad to see more and more Medieval stories being filmed.
