I started this web-site for a number of small reasons: because I love history, because I love movies, and because I love to screencap (it’s my sad little hobby, it is). And so this site was born on August 8, 2006. It started off as just a modest gallery, but it slowly grew larger. I decided to include more information so that others like me might get a more satisfactory historical film fix. LAC can serve whatever purpose one might find for it: layout graphics and wallpapers, avatars and icons, costume/history reference, nit-picking, gallery-filling (see Rules), or simply staring at your favorite celebrity in historical garb.

I also built this site so as to by-pass criticism directed at so many of these movies due to apparent historical inaccuracies and whatnot. Whether they’re from Hollywood or filmed independently in the Arabian Desert, movies are going to be flawed. Artistic liberties will be made. Costumes will be altered. Historical characters will die when they shouldn’t or vice-versa. Even though I, too, am guilty of said nit-picking (I don’t claim to know a whole lot of history myself- or enough, rather), I hope that this site will be a place to learn more about the events and people behind a movie, not to belittle actors or writers or people who might not see why it matters that such-and-such Roman was not wearing the right sandals for the time he’s in. I hope to find a balance between educational and entertaining.
